The immunization of our children is currently a “hot topic” of our society. At Stony Brook Pediatrics, we believe that immunizations play a key role in the prevention of serious childhood disease and disability. We follow the immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control. By doing this, we maximize the protection of your child. We value the safety of your child, and it is our responsibility to keep ourselves informed of the latest evidence based information regarding the safety and utility of each vaccine we administer.
If you are not comfortable with a particular vaccine, talk with us. If you decide that you prefer to decline a recommended vaccine, we do use a declination form so your wishes are clearly documented in your child’s chart.
Below are the immunization schedules for children from birth to 12 years old. You can access your child’s immunization record through the patient portal. If you have any questions regarding your child’s immunization record, please do not hesitate to call us.
Note: we no longer routinely give acetaminophen before or with immunizations, but feel free to ask!
Flu Vaccine: We do recommended the flu vaccine annually for all patients 6 months to 18 years of age. (when available, call office in October to check on supply)
Our flu vaccines are always preservative free, never containing thiomerosal.
We do not offer the flumist intranasal flu vaccine.
